Author to hold book signing at The Avenue

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- Bestselling author Karen Kingsbury will hold a talk and book signing in Peachtree City this weekend.

Kingsbury will speak about her latest novel, The Chance, at Books-A-Million on Saturday, Apr. 13 at 3 p.m.

She is a Tennessee-based inspirational author who has written dozens of books, most of which have been bestsellers.

2013 Shuler Hensley Awards nominees announced

ATLANTA -- Some of the most talented young performers in Georgia have been recognized with nominations for the 2013 Shuler Hensley Awards.

The awards program honors the best high school musical theater productions in the state.

It is named for Cobb County native Shuler Hensley, a seasoned Broadway performer who has won a number of prestigious awards, including a Tony.

This year's Shuler Hensley Awards nominees were announced Tuesday. The awards ceremony will be held Apr. 18 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.

The Fred announces 2013 concert schedule

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- Peachtree City's Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater has announced its 2013 Lexus of South Atlanta Summer Concert Series under the Stars lineup.

Los Lobos and Los Lonely Boys will kick off the season on May 18, while the World Class Rockers -- original members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Toto, Steppenwolf, Journey and Santana -- will perform on June 8.

The Temptations and the Four Tops will bring their smooth sounds to The Fred's stage on June 29. The Where the Action Is tour featuring Paul Revere and the Raiders, Mary Wilson of the Supremes, The Association and Mitch Ryder will stop by on July 20.

Huey Lewis and the News will perform on Aug. 23. The sixth and final concert of the season has yet to be determined.

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- The Friends of the Peachtree City Library poetry contest ends this Friday, Mar. 1 at 5 p.m.

The contest's theme is "Our World, Our Community."

Everyone is welcome to enter. A cash prize of $100 will be awarded to the winners of each of the three categories: students in grades 1-6, students in grades 7-12 and adults.

A $10 entry fee must be paid for up to three poems.

7 Fayette students named to Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony

FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. -- Seven talented young musicians from three Fayette County high schools have been named to the 2012-13 Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony.

The students were among 85 selected from more than 300 applicants. The Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony has given metro Atlanta's brightest talents an opportunity to shine since 1988.

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- Boney James is the next jazz artist to visit the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater in Peachtree City.

The concert will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31. Tickets can be purchased through Ticket Alternative or The Fred's box office.
