Peachtree City hosts Dr. Marty Becker, author of "Your Dog: The Owners Manual"

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – People and pets are migrating to Peachtree City to hear celebrity veterinarian from Good Morning America and Dr. Oz, Dr. Marty Becker speak about his new book.

Becker will be signing his new book, “Your Dog: The Owner’s Manual” and hosting a presentation with free gifts and giveaways. Owners will receive tops on how to effortlessly bathe a dog without, how to brush your dog’s teeth along with other ways to care for your pet.

Actresses like Betty White call the book, “a blessing to all dog lovers”.

The book talk will be held at PETCO, which is located at 1243 North Peachtree Parkway in Peachtree City.

SOUTH METRO AREA – There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.

Celebrate Earth Day at the Riverdale Town Centre from 5:00 to 9:00p p.m. on Friday, April 22. The event will showcase different local vendors and actives that will enhance the environment.

Join the Peactreee City Community for their annual Easter Egg Hunt. The event will be held on Saturday, April 23 at Shakerag Knoll on McIntosh Trail. Everyone will be admitted for free, to this event. Fire trucks will be on display and children will be able to partake in games, face painting and jumping in the moonwalk. Festivities began at 9:00 a.m.

The Main Street Academy in College Park will host their Spring Festival on Saturday, also. This outdoor festival includes karaoke, moonwalks, carnival games, food, a silent auction and prizes. Tickets to this event costs $10 and every ticket includes unlimited play.

DASANI Celebrated its New PlantBottle® Packaging by Giving Back to Local Eco-Samaritans

The first 100 percent recyclable beverage packages made with plants were made readily available on April 4, 2011 to people across the U.S. To recognize the little things people do to live more sustainably, a DASANI Blue Crew attended two big events in Atlanta on April 16 and April 17 and thanked residents for partaking in eco-friendly activities. The local effort helped to celebrate the national launch of DASANI PlantBottle® packaging – a 100 percent recyclable bottle made of up to 30 percent plants.

More than 1,000 Atlanta residents were “caught,” by the DASANI Blue Crew, being environmental do-gooders.

Berry student to intern with Compassion International

ROME, Ga. -- A Berry College junior will spend her summer in Colorado and the Dominican Republic, working with one of the most prestigious Christian child advocacy programs in the world.

Rachel Imes was recently chosen for a competitive internship with Compassion International and will work with its human resources to further her dream of having a career in non-profit international relief.

"I always knew I wanted to help people, but I wasn't sure how," Imes said. Now, she has found a way.

Founded by the Rev. Everett Swanson in 1952, Compassion began providing Korean War orphans with food, shelter, education and health care, as well as Christian training.

PTC Police Department to hold "Junior Police Academy"

PTC Police Department to hold "Junior Police Academy"

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – Starting on June 6, the Peachtree City Police Department will be hosting its 3rd Junior Police Academy. The Junior Police Academy is similar to the Citizen’s Police Academy by providing a course designed to teach youth about the operations of the Peachtree City Police Department.

Students will participate in hands on training in many aspects of law enforcement, including a ride-along with a law enforcement officer. Students wanting to be in the program must be between the ages of 12 and 17.

The Junior Police Academy will be held June 6-10 at the Peachtree City Police Department Headquarters. The headquarters is located 350 S. Hwy 74 in Peachtree City, Georgia.
