Pike Nurseries celebrates spring with Happy Flower Hours

ATLANTA -- All Atlanta-area Pike Nurseries locations will kick off the spring planting season with Happy Flower Hours next week.

From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 22, Pike customers can enjoy store-wide discounts on plants, gardening accessories, patio furniture and more. Williamson Brothers Bar-B-Q will provide complimentary food, and guests will have the opportunity to win discounts and a free landscape design. The first 100 customers will also receive a free reusable tote.

The Fred announces 2013 concert schedule

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- Peachtree City's Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater has announced its 2013 Lexus of South Atlanta Summer Concert Series under the Stars lineup.

Los Lobos and Los Lonely Boys will kick off the season on May 18, while the World Class Rockers -- original members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Toto, Steppenwolf, Journey and Santana -- will perform on June 8.

The Temptations and the Four Tops will bring their smooth sounds to The Fred's stage on June 29. The Where the Action Is tour featuring Paul Revere and the Raiders, Mary Wilson of the Supremes, The Association and Mitch Ryder will stop by on July 20.

Huey Lewis and the News will perform on Aug. 23. The sixth and final concert of the season has yet to be determined.

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- The Friends of the Peachtree City Library poetry contest ends this Friday, Mar. 1 at 5 p.m.

The contest's theme is "Our World, Our Community."

Everyone is welcome to enter. A cash prize of $100 will be awarded to the winners of each of the three categories: students in grades 1-6, students in grades 7-12 and adults.

A $10 entry fee must be paid for up to three poems.

Ga. Connections Academy holding information sessions

ATLANTA -- Georgia Connections Academy will open enrollment for the 2013-14 school year on Mar. 4.

The fully accredited virtual school will also host several information sessions across Georgia to give potential students and parents a taste of what it offers.

"The good news is that we have 1,000 additional student slots, scattered across all grades, which will be open for the coming academic year," principal Heather Robinson said in a statement. "Nevertheless, due to the fact we have a waiting list as we open enrollment, we encourage parents to get their applications in now."

Oak tree to be planted for Arbor Day

Oak tree to be planted for Arbor Day

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- Peachtree City will celebrate Arbor Day by planting an oak tree in the median of Riley Parkway at Wisdom Road.

An oak tree was removed from the intersection last year. Now, Blumenhaus Landscapes owner Ed Jackson has donated a similar tree to take its place.

The tree will be planted Friday, Feb. 15 at 2:45 p.m. The public is invited to attend a brief ceremony before the planting.

Mardi Gras event to benefit Healing4Heroes

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- Healing4Heroes will hold its second annual Mardi Gras Rendezvous fundraiser this weekend.

The event will be held from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 at Flat Creek Country Club in Peachtree City.

Activities include music, a cash bar, silent and live auctions, a champagne toast and other Mardi Gras-themed fun. Proceeds benefit Healing4Heroes, a non-profit that provides service dogs to wounded veterans and military members.

Tickets for the Mardi Gras Rendezvous are $50 and can be purchased at healing4heroes.org.

Flat Creek Country Club is located at 100 Flat Creek Road.

Chick-fil-A Daddy-Daughter Date Night returns in 2013

ATLANTA -- Chick-fil-A's wildly popular Daddy-Daughter Date Night will return in February.

More than 100 Atlanta- and Athens-area Chick-fil-A restaurants will host the event on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Every couple in attendance will receive an activity sheet with conversation topics and a booklet called "Continuing the Conversation," which gives the dads and daughters suggestions for getting to know each other better.

"One of Chick-fil-A's goals is to promote community connections and enrich the lives of everyone we serve," Chick-fil-A area marketing director Robin Lomax said in a statement. "We understand the importance of father-daughter relationships and want to encourage dads to take a break from busy schedules, enjoy their daughters' company over a meal and have fun."
