Heart to Heart 5K to benefit Kedron ES

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- The next race in the Peachtree City Running Club's Grand Prix Series will be held at Kedron Elementary School.

Money raised by the Heart to Heart 5K and 1-mile fun run directly benefits Kedron Elementary.

The race will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9. Admission is $20 for the 5K and $15 for the fun run; register no later than Jan. 18 to be guaranteed a T-shirt. Runners who don't wish to collect a T-shirt can register for only $10.

ATLANTA -- Pike Nurseries is holding a free class to help homeowners learn ways to draw birds to their backyards.

According to Pike Nurseries, roughly 350 species of birds live in Georgia. The birding class will teach participants the types of seed that are best for attracting birds, the three essentials needed to draw birds and how to provide for birds during the cold winter months.

The Attracting Birds to Your Backyard class will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at all metro Atlanta Pike Nurseries locations. Visit pikenursery.com to find your closest location.

College expo coming to south side

FAIRBURN, Ga. -- Students in Atlanta's southern suburbs will have the chance to attend a local college fair at the end of the month.

The Go to College Expo will be held at the Country Inn & Suites in Fairburn on Saturday, Jan. 26.

College recruiters will be on hand to answer questions about financial aid and the schools they represent. The fair is geared toward high school juniors and seniors, as well as adults and veterans who wish to return to school.

The expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Country Inn & Suites is located at 7815 Senoia Road, just off Interstate 85.

Tickets on sale for Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- The 21st annual Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast will be held on Saturday, Jan. 26.

Festivities include face painting, visits from Flapjack the Raccoon and, of course, a big breakfast of pancakes, sausage, juice, milk and coffee.

Tickets are now on sale for the fun family event, which will take place from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at McIntosh High School. The cost is $5 in advance or $6 at the door.

Advance tickets can be purchased at the Peachtree City Walmart and the Braelinn and Kedron Krogers from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 12 and 19.

AKA holding peace rally for middle school students

ATLANTA -- Members of metro Atlanta's chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will hold a peace rally and workshop for middle school students over the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday weekend.

The event will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Ivy Community Center in southwest Atlanta. It is part of the 40 Days of Peace project, which aims to spread service and kindness through the country.

The peace rally and workshop will aim to teach young people about Dr. King's mission, and to raise awareness of crime and crime prevention strategies. Law enforcement members will also give an interactive presentation to encourage children to stamp out gangs and bullying.

Middle school students from several metro Atlanta counties -- Cobb, Cherokee, Clayton, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Hall, Henry, Paulding and Rockdale -- are expected to participate.

Registration open for father/daughter dance

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- This year's Peachtree City father/daughter dance will be held Saturday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m.

The father/daughter dance is a fun evening of music, dancing, refreshments and enough memories to last a lifetime.

Registration is now underway for the annual event. The cost is $45 per couple. Non-Fayette County residents can bring additional daughters for $20 each.

The dance will be held at Kedron Fieldhouse.

McIntosh HS lacrosse players to pick up Christmas trees

McIntosh HS lacrosse players to pick up Christmas trees

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- Members of the McIntosh High School boys' lacrosse team are willing to pick up and recycle your used Christmas tree.

The lacrosse players will retrieve trees from Peachtree City homes and businesses through Feb. 2.

In return, McIntosh High asks that participants make a donation to the lacrosse team.

If you would like to recycle your Christmas tree yourself, you can participate in Bring One for the Chipper.
