Shakerag Festival returns this weekend

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- Peachtree City's popular Shakerag Arts & Crafts Festival will return this weekend.

The event will be held at Shakerag Knoll on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 22 from noon to 5 p.m.

Admission is free. Attendees will be treated to dozens of vendors, food for purchase and a children's area.

Shakerag Knoll is located on McIntosh Trail next to the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater.

Pizzeria to raise money for HeroBox

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- Peachtree City's newest pizza restaurant is celebrating its grand opening by doing good for others.

Brixx Wood Fired Pizza will open on Monday, Sept. 16. From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on opening day, customers can donate to HeroBox, a Tyrone-based charity that supports deployed service members.

A $25 donation will net Brixx customers dinner, wine and special craft beer. All proceeds will go toward care packages for those serving in the military.

PROBE College Fair coming to Fayette County

TYRONE, Ga. -- The PROBE College Fair will stop in Fayette County next week.

The fair, which features representatives from nearly 200 colleges and universities across the country, will be at Sandy Creek High School on Wednesday, Sept. 18 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- The Peachtree City Police Department will host its National Night Out on Tuesday, Oct. 1 from 6 p.m to 8 p.m.

National Night Out is a program designed to strengthen the bond between police departments and the communities they serve.

A number of agencies will attend Peachtree City's event, which will be held at Drake Field near City Hall. Residents will also get the opportunity to see a fire department ladder truck, police vehicles and a helicopter up close.

Other activities include a scavenger hunt and prizes.

Last year's National Night Out was held in 15,000 communities across the U.S., Canada and military bases worldwide.

PetSmart to host National Adoption Weekend

(WXIA) -- PetSmart Charities is planning a major adoption event at stores nationwide.

National Adoption Weekend will be Sept. 13-15. Thousands of dogs and cats will be available for PetSmart customers to take home.

Adoption representatives will also be on hand to answer questions about caring for a new pet.

PetSmart Charities will give $35 to grants to participating local adoption partners for every pet that finds a new home during National Adoption Weekend.

"We are proud to partner with PetSmart Charities to find lifelong loving homes for thousands of pets this National Adoption Weekend," PetSmart CEO David Lenhardt said.

Fayette's Biggest Food Drive needs volunteers

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. -- Fayette County is looking for volunteers to help out with a county-wide food drive next month.

Fayette's Biggest Food Drive will be held Saturday, Sept. 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fayetteville Gazebo.

The food drive's goal is to fill a 53-foot trailer with non-perishable items for local families in need.

Peachtree City is creating a list of volunteers who can deliver items from the city to the Fayetteville Gazebo. Anyone interested in helping out is asked to send a message to info@peachtree-city.org.
