McIntosh HS senior named Gatorade Ga. Boys Soccer Player of the Year

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- A McIntosh High School student is the 2013 Gatorade Georgia Boys Soccer Player of the Year.

Senior Salomon Lorenzano beat all the other male high school soccer players in the state for the honor.

The forward led the McIntosh Chiefs to a 21-0 record this season; the team will play Pope High School Wednesday in the Class AAAAA semifinals. Over the course of the season, Lorenzano scored 23 goals and passed for 28 assists.

When he's not on the field, Lorenzano maintains a B average in the classroom, volunteers for fundraisers that support muscular dystrophy and cancer research, and serves as a children's soccer coach. He has signed a National Letter of Intent to play soccer at Georgia State University in the fall.

The USA Today Metro Atlanta Super 25 Girls Poll is led by two teams on a collision course to a final showdown this weekend in Macon.

North Gwinnett and Norcross are 1 and 2 headed into the class AAAAAA final. Wesleyan, Parkview, and Columbia make up the top 5.

ATLANTA -- The new USA Today Metro Atlanta Super 25 Girls Poll is here.

This week, there are changes in the top 5, but the name at the stop stays the same.

This week the nationally-ranked North Gwinnett girls solidified their position in the top spot with a convincing win over arch rival Norcross. Also nationally ranked this week are the Parkview girls, who move up to second this week. Norcross, Wesleyan and Columbia round out the top 5.

Buford, Miller Grove, Stephenson, North Cobb and Tucker complete the top 10 in this week's Girls Super 25.

Big movers this week include Redan rising from 24th to 12th, while Mountain View slides from 17th to 23rd.

New additions include Osborne, which joins the list at 19, and Creekview, which is 25th.

Defending state champion McEachern and state finalist Hillgrove drop out of the Super 25 this week.
