PEACHTREE CITY, GA - These days it seems more and more couples want to live together without getting married.
Apparently a Peachtree City woman thought one husband wasn't enough.
"It's the first time in 15 years that we've had a bigamy case that I know of," Capt. Rosanna Dove of the Peachtree City Police Department told 11 Alive on Friday.
Even she was surprised when her officers arrested 39-year-old Lucy Caudill on Thursday.
They were surprised to learn that she lived with her first husband of 15 years in one of the community's more upscale neighborhoods.
The couple had a pre-teen child.
Police say someone familiar with Caudill grew suspicious when she frequently hired a nanny to take care of the child while her husband was out of town on business trips.
That's when police found out about the second husband.
They say Lucy Caudill met him last October at the Tavern on 74 Sports Bar.
The pair began dating in December and then applied for a marriage license at the Fayette County Courthouse just last week, on April 25th.
Lucy Caudill listed a different name on the marriage license, Lucy Caudle Bailey, and claimed to be only 27-years-old instead of 39.
Amazingly, she listed her address as the same house she still shared with her first husband.
The second husband listed an address only a few miles away.
They married a day after getting their license during a small ceremony at Starr's Mill.
But only 8 days into that second marriage Caudill was picked up by police.
Capt. Dove explained how Caudill lead her two separate lives.
"Apparently when her first husband would go on trips she would then hire this nanny and go spend time with her second husband; when she'd leave the second husband she had told him that she was working for a music group and she had to go on tour with them and that's why she was gone for extended periods of time from her second husband," Dove said.
11 Alive spoke with the second husband, who didn't want to be interviewed.
He did tell us Caudill told him she was divorced and had a stepchild.
Now she faces two felony charges of bigamy and second degree forgery.
We left a message on the phone listed on Caudill's second marriage license, but so far she hasn't responded.
