Fayetteville shooting, burglary suspect still at large | News
FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. -- Fayette County Investigators are on the search for a suspect in connection with a Fayetteville shooting and burglary that happened Friday morning.
Fayette County Sheriff's Deputies said they responded to a shooting at a Bohannon Road residence on Friday morning at about 11:30 a.m. When they arrived, they discovered that a 44-year-old woman had been shot and killed from what they believe was a single gunshot.
The victim lived with her 78-year-old grandmother, who is mentally and physically handicapped, requiring constant care.
Police said that the two females returned home after running errands, to find their home being burglarized by an unknown number of suspects. Upon finding the acts in progress, they immediately tried to exit through the home's front door.
It is believed that the suspects also tried to flee using a rear door, running towards a getaway vehicle. The car is described as a four door gray or silver sedan.
As they fled towards the car, one suspect fired a shot that struck the 44-year-old victim, who was later pronounced dead on the scene.
The 78-year-old woman was not injured, and later released to family members.
