Peachtree City teen injured in golf cart accident

FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. -- A Peachtree City teen is in serious condition after the golf cart he or she was riding in crashed into another car.

Police say the 15-year-old passenger was ejected from the golf cart and had to be life-flighted from the Kedron Boat Docks to Childrens Health Care of Atlanta. The teen is expected to be OK. 

Federal regulators seize Peachtree City-based Bank of Georgia

(AP) -- Regulators are closing a small Georgia bank, marking the seventh failure of a federally insured bank this year.

The Bank of Georgia, based in Peachtree City, Georgia, was closed Friday, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. said.

Fidelity Bank, a subsidiary of Fidelity Southern Corp., agreed to buy $255.3 million of the failed bank's assets and will gain seven locations.

As of June 30, The Bank of Georgia had about $294.2 million in total assets and $280.7 million in total deposits.

The failure is expected to cost the FDIC $23.2 million.

Mold outbreak threatens Peachtree City school

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. (WXIA) -- A mold outbreak at a Peachtree City elementary school has parents worried, and school leaders racing to clean the classrooms and ease fears.

Parents had the chance to get answers firsthand from the staff on .Monday night at Huddleston Elementary

The school explained the HVAC system in the hallways connected the Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade hallways caused the outbreak. Ten rooms are affected. Seven are classrooms. Others are work rooms and lounged.

The cafeteria turned in to a town hall as parents asked questions for three hours on Monday. School leaders explained their battle plan against a mold outbreak while students continue to attend school.

The school aims to clean the school, remove the mold and control the humidity. Longterm, a new HVAC system will be installed. That won't happen until the end of the school year.

Ex-Peachtree City police chief pleads guilty to shooting wife

FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. -- Former Peachtree City police chief William McCollom pleaded guilty Thursday to shooting his ex-wife. He was sentenced to 12 months of unsupervised probation and ordered to pay a $1,000 fine.


Police: Family targeted in Peachtree City home invasion

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – Police in Peachtree City are warning business owners after three gunmen robbed a family in a home invasion.

Authorities said the family had just left the restaurant they owned and returned to their home on Blue Smoke Trail. Three men forced their way into that home and took cash, jewelry, cell phones and the family's car.

Investigators said it was not a random crime and believe the family was targeted. Authorities say the gunmen followed the family from another county after they closed their business for the night.


Serial burglars caught on trail camera

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga -- Police in Peachtree City feel like they got the break they need to solve a rash of burglaries in apartment complexes.

Two apartment complexes have been victimized by six burglaries since January.

The latest burglary happened on Monday at an apartment in The Retreat at Kedron Village. The victim was not home but a trail camera inside the apartment captured pictures of two suspects. Peachtree City Police said the camera was positioned near the victim's gun cabinet.

FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga -- Police in Fayette County are on the lookout for a red-hot, giant red chili pepper. The pepper was stolen from a farm in the town of Brooks.

Firefighters save trucker from burning big rig

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- Peachtree City fire rescue crews saved a trucker whose big rig went up in flames early Friday.

Crews were able to put the fire out before it could spread to a building that the truck was docked against on Guthrie Way.

Rescuers say the driver managed to get out of the sleeper cab wearing only shorts.

Crews picked through all the burned debris and found his keys and wallet. Firefighters got him some shoes and a T-shirt and brought him to a hotel.

There is no word on what caused the fire.

Attempted kidnapper's sentence overturned by high court

FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. -- A man convicted of trying to kidnap two boys in Peachtree City had his charges and prison sentence overturned by the Georgia Supreme Court.

Andrew Magnuson was sentenced in 2002 to 40 years in prison and 25 on probation after pleading guilty to all counts against him.

But in an opinion published Monday, Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Hugh Thompson wrote the plea was invalid because Magnuson suffered from a mental disorder.

"Magnuson's mental health condition prevented him from understanding the consequences of his plea," the opinion says, siding with a defense attorney's argument that Magnuson should not have been allowed to enter a group plea, as he did after his arrest and indictment.

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – The arrest of a The Walking Dead star in Georgia was captured on police dashcam.

Peachtree City Police say they clocked Seth Gilliam going 107 mph in a 55 mph zone early Sunday morning.

Gilliam plays Reverend Gabriel Stokes on the hit AMC Show, which is filmed in Senoia, Ga.

Gilliam was taken to the Fayette County Jail and charged with reckless driving, DUI, drug possession and speeding. He posted a $9,818 bond and was released.
