Football, cheer registration opens Monday

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- Registration for Peachtree City's youth football programs begins Apr. 1.

The city's two football and cheer programs are geared toward children ages 5-14. Both feed into local high school programs.

Anyone can register for the McIntosh Youth Football and Cheer Program. To participate in the Starr's Mill Youth Football & Cheerleading Program, children must live in the Starr's Mill High School district.

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- Registration is currently underway for the Peachtree City Monopoly Tournament.

The event will be held Saturday, Apr. 27 at the Dolce Atlanta-Peachtree Resort and Convention Center.

The tournament will begin with sign-in at 8:30 a.m., followed by first round play at 10 a.m. All rounds are 90 minutes long.

More than $1,000 in cash and prizes is at stake. The overall winner will receive $100, while the second place finisher gets $50, and third and fourth place finishers each earn $25. There is no entry fee.

Alliance hopes to bring sporting events to Fayette

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- The Peachtree City Convention and Visitors Bureau has formed a new group that hopes to attract sports events and tournaments to the town.

The Peachtree-Fayette Sports Alliance (PFSA) will be staffed by a board of directors representing Peachtree City, Tyrone and unincorporated Fayette County. Together, they will work to maximize use of the county's sports facilities, such as the Baseball & Soccer Complex on Highway 74, and initiate bidding for larger sporting events.

Heart to Heart 5K to benefit Kedron ES

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- The next race in the Peachtree City Running Club's Grand Prix Series will be held at Kedron Elementary School.

Money raised by the Heart to Heart 5K and 1-mile fun run directly benefits Kedron Elementary.

The race will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9. Admission is $20 for the 5K and $15 for the fun run; register no later than Jan. 18 to be guaranteed a T-shirt. Runners who don't wish to collect a T-shirt can register for only $10.

Frostbite 5K to benefit St. Paul Lutheran

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- The annual St. Paul Lutheran School Frostbite 5K will be held over the first weekend of 2013.

The fun will take place on Saturday, Jan. 5. Proceeds from the race benefit the Peachtree City church and school.

The 5K will be off and running at 9 a.m., while a 1-mile fun run will begin at 9:05 a.m. Both races begin and end in the lower parking lot of St. Paul Lutheran School, which is located at 700 Ardenlee Parkway. Runners are asked to park at nearby Crabapple Lane Elementary School.

Pre-registration is $25, while race day registration is $30. Sign up at active.com.

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- Peachtree City Elementary School is still accepting runners for this year's Jingle Bell Trail 5K and 1-mile fun run.

The Jingle Bell Trail is always held on the first Saturday in December; this year's race will be off and running at 9 a.m. on Dec. 1.

Registration is $25. Runners are encouraged to strap jingle bells on their shoes and to spread holiday cheer as they tear through Peachtree City.

Tee up to help the Humane Society

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- The Fayette County Humane Society is preparing to host Fore the Paws, its first annual golf tournament.

Fore the Paws will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at Braelinn Golf Club.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Humane Society's spay/neuter program. Some of the money raised will also help provide veterinary care for rescued cats and dogs.

Tickets are $85 each and include a green fee, range balls, golf cart use, breakfast and a lunchtime awards ceremony. They will be sold through Wednesday, Oct. 31.

Fore the Paws will also include a raffle that is open to participants and non-participants.
