Safe Kids offering free car seat checks

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- Peachtree City Police and Fayette County Safe Kids Organization will offer free child seat safety checks this week.

Parents can get their children's car seats checked Wednesday, May 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Picnic Park behind City Hall.

Participants should allow roughly 30 minutes for inspection. They are encouraged to bring their cars and children if possible.

All American 5K to benefit veterans

All American 5K to benefit veterans

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- This year's Peachtree City All American 5K will raise money for the American Legion Post 50.

The race will held Saturday, May 25 at 8 a.m. It begins and ends at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater.

Runners, walkers and phantom runners are invited to come out for the event. It costs $25 to enter, which includes a T-shirt.

Past All American 5K honorees include Ashley Kurpiel and Lt. Dan Berschinski.

FAIRBURN, Ga. -- The 2013 Georgia Renaissance Festival continues with a Celtic celebration for those with Scottish heritage -- and anyone who wishes they were Scottish too!

On May 4-5, festival attendees are invited to dress in their best Celtic attire. There will be a special sheepherding exhibition and swordfighting show.

The festival will also host a haggis eating contest for anyone brave enough to try the infamous dish cooked inside a sheep's stomach. The contest will be held Saturday and Sunday at 1:15 p.m.; a grand prize of two passes to Stone Mountain Park is at stake.

Dinner to honor cancer survivors

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- The American Cancer Society will hold its 2013 Relay for Life Annual Survivor Dinner for cancer survivors and their families next month.

The dinner will be held Friday, May 10 at New Hope Baptist Church in Peachtree City.

Registration begins at 5:30 p.m., with the dinner slated to start at 6:30 p.m. It is free to attend.

Bestselling author and syndicated columnist Ronda Rich will be the keynote speaker.

Church holding career workshops

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- Peachtree City's Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is holding free career workshops for the community this week.

The classes will be held Apr. 23-24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

Topics include the current job market, making an impression on potential employers, interview preparation and learning to negotiate upon receiving an offer.

The church is located at 101 South Peachtree Parkway.

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- Registration is underway for the 2013 Peachtree International and SuperSprint Triathlon.

This year's race will be held Saturday, May 18. The course begins and ends at Drake Field.

The International Distance Triathlon consists of a .93-mile swim, 25-mile bike ride and 6.2-mile run. There is also a SuperSprint option with a 300-yard swim, 8-mile bike ride and 2-mile run.

Library to hold used book sale

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- The Friends of the Peachtree City Library will hold a used book sale this Wednesday.

The sale will be held Apr. 17 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Room 3 on the library's lower level.

Dealers and members of the public are all invited to attend. Many of the books for sale are in "like new" condition.
