Sunday rains prompt flood watches

ATLANTA -- Rains moving through north Georgia have prompted flood watches into the mountains Sunday afternoon, and could continue to create problems into Monday morning.

Interactive Radar

The watch stretches from extreme Norrthwest Georgia down south into Cherokee County.

The band of heavier rain to the west will slowly make its way into west Georgia by afternoon. Ahead of that main line, there will be just a few off and on showers. Once the main line comes in, we will see good rain amounts through Monday and even into early Tuesday. We expect between 1-3 inches of rain with some higher amounts in some localized areas.

Colder air will come in on the backside of this system. We have a chance for some snow flurries Monday night and Tuesday morning. The best chances for flurries are in north Georgia. Don't be surprised to see some blowing flurries in some metro counties, too. Remember, the ground is still warm, so we aren't expecting any accumulation here. There could be some light accumulations in the north Georgia mountains. This is an evolving weather system. We will continue to fine tune the forecast over the next couple of days.
